Tapping the Brakes
How the hell did the confirmation of Eric Holder get delayed? When did the Republicans take back control of the Senate? This is an absurd failure on the part of the Democratic Senate Leadership.
Don’t buy the bullshit about Chiquita or Rich. Eric Holder’s confirmation is being held up because he said the words, “waterboarding is torture.” These are true words that needed to be said by anyone up for a top position in the DOJ. Waterboarding is torture. They also happen to be a stepping stone to prosecuting members of the Bush administration.
But that’s not the point. The point is that the Democrats have a mandate on this type of thing. By allowing this debate to continue it gives a forum for Republican Senators (specifically the Cracker Contingent) to spout off the bullshit ticking clock theory again. It’s bullshit! Torture doesn’t work! I’m livid.
It’s so important that Holder assume office immediately. The DOJ has been torn apart by politicized appointees that have ruined its credibility as an impartial servant of the law. Beyond that, the very idea of competence has been thrown out the window. You heard of Messiah University Law School? Does that school have a tradition of proven jurists? Hmmmmm? Well, if you wanted to join the DOJ for the past eight years you would be better off having a degree from Messiah University than Yale or Harvard. Come on! So much anger right now.
We won. We picked up the White House and a large majority in the Senate. That doesn’t mean we shove through an extremist agenda. But it does mean that when the most qualified man for a cabinet position is nominated, there better be a damn good reason that nomination gets paused for even one minute. Holder is a return to competence. He is a symbol of the importance the new administration places on the rule of law. We cannot bend on that. Ever.
If Harry Reid can’t find the 60th vote out there (isn’t this why we’re bending over backwards for John McCain’s reputation??) then he should be removed from his position. I want Rahmbo to do it personally.
