The Only Ten-I-See

By Alex Matthews

The Tennessee House was split this morning 50 Republicans and 49 Democrats. The entire House Republican majority showed up to watch what should have amounted to a handover of the speakership from former Democrat Jimmy Naifeh to Jason Mumpower, the GOP nominee for the position. But in a hilariously brilliant turn of events, all of the Democrats voted for RINO (Republican In Name Only of course, think Zell Miller but the opposite) Kent Williams after having schemed to do so for weeks ahead of time. He voted for himself and broke the tie.

According to the Tennessean newspaper, “As the vote took place, the House chamber at moments erupted into near bedlam, with spectators raining down boos, hisses and angry shouts, which was quieted at one point after Naifeh threatened to have unruly audience members removed.” One Republican House member so vexed by the coup stated, “he’s a guy who’s lied to our face…People like him give politics a bad name.” Mr. Williams was immediately stripped of his party affiliation and what should have been a narrow majority and a Republican controlled House was instantly transformed into a Democratic one.

This really is spectator politics at its best. Gotta love this shit.
