Inaugurate This! (FDR Grabs Crotch)
Obama’s inaugural has been prematurely compared to FDR’s in 1933, but will likely be much closer in its tone and the overall political atmosphere to that which Ronald Reagan gave in 1981 for several reasons which I don’t need to go into here; post a response or e-mail me if you want to argue the point. It’s shaping up to be less of a, “Fear Not for I am Here,” speech and more of a, “We can do this together because this is a great nation,” speech.
From Reagan’s first inaugural:
“It does require, however, our best effort and our willingness to believe in ourselves and to believe in our capacity to perform great deeds, to believe that together with God’s help we can and will resolve the problems which now confront us.
And after all, why shouldn’t we believe that? We are Americans.”
